SIR - Shipley MP Philip Davies is quite right to point out that there are "no-go areas" in Bradford, which many residents already know only too well (T&A, May 7).

His call for more stop and search actions by the police is well founded. Knife crime is a concern to all, and much more robust - and visible - policing is vital.

There was a headline in the previous day's T&A saying "Calls for Bradfordians to appreciate what they have."

Unfortunately these include druggies, undesirables everywhere, street crime, beggars, intimidating gatherings, a lack of visible policing, etc., etc.

No wonder so many simply no longer wish to visit the city centre any more. I suspect that more pedestrianisation and cycle lanes will make little difference.
