SIR - Philip Davis makes a robust attack on "welfare scroungers" and "those who choose not to engage with work" in his latest T&A column.

His dogmatic stance is somewhat undermined by a report on the very next page headed "Bradford hardest place to find work" which contains the words "...there are 5.69 people looking for work per vacancy".

The Tories are ruthlessly pursuing an agenda of divide and rule by scapegoating the vulnerable sections of society, and in effect blaming them for the ills of the last thirteen years.

In fairness I must add that Mr. Davis has effectively assisted me in resolving a number of personal issues, for which I thank him and his team.
