SIR - The Bradford Historical and Antiquarian Society began in 1878 and is still thriving. We meet most months of the year at the Bradford Club, Piece Hall Yard, Bradford (situated between Kirkgate and Hustlergate) at 10.30am on the second Wednesday of the month.
An average attendance of 40 people learn about the history of our district and wider areas through the talks given by local and national historians.
As well as the monthly talks the BHAS has a well-stocked lending library of books on the history of Bradford. It also produces an annual collection of articles within its publication The Bradford Antiquary. Many of the articles, written over a 150-year period, can be accessed on our website at no charge.
Our first meeting of the new season will be on Wednesday, September 13 at the Bradford Club. The club building is one of the jewels in the centre of Bradford. The speaker will be Phil Judkin - visiting fellow at the University of Leeds - and his subject is Bradford's warship, HMS Aurora.
Attendance at the meetings is open to non-members. For full details of the BHAS please see our website, bradfordhistorical.org.uk.
Geoff Twentyman, Secretary BHAS
