SIR - The Mail on Sunday says new laws in the EU next summer will mean British travellers will have their fingerprints taken and faces scanned when they enter EU nations. The paper runs this as a 'shock horror' story since some estimates predict that it could cause time to clear passport control increasing fourfold.

Two points need to be made clear. First, this potential increase in UK traveller inconvenience is directly an outcome of Brexit. We are now a “third country” - which is exactly what those who pushed for Brexit wanted.

Secondly, it is a bit rich for Mail readers kicking off about this. Biometric checking of visitors from third countries is an example of the EU reinforcing control of its own borders. Was not Brexit sold to us as “taking back control”?
