SIR - You report (18 July) that our government 'plans' to install 600,000 heat pumps annually in UK houses to switch us over to cheaper low carbon home heating. But the real number is only 60,000. Few British homeowners have the money. And what about the sprawling private rental sector?
France is well on the way to converting all its houses in 50 years. At the current rate it will take us 500 years. We are being condemned to expensive cold homes with no solution in sight.
