A BRADFORD resident has hit out at "disgusting" fly-tipping which he claims has resulted in "rats running around everywhere".

The fly-tipping, on land off Bowling Hall Road, East Bowling, includes a variety of rubbish in black bags and household waste like old furniture and carpets.

A reclining settee and broken bed frame were dumped on the land over the weekend.

The fly-tipping has frustrated residents, including one man who contacted the T&A.

"It's a disgrace and it's really bad to look at," said Bowling Hall Road resident Roger White.

"There are rats running around everywhere.

"A settee and a broken bed frame just got dumped over the weekend. It looks disgusting."

A spokesperson for Bradford Council said they are aware of the problem and are investigating the source of the fly-tipping.

Mr White said: "Vans must be pulling up in the middle of the night because I'll see rubbish that I hadn't been there the night before.

"It's not nice when you come home and have to look at that.

"I've lived here 18 months but other people have said it's been going on for a couple of years."

Mr White said he and others have reported the issue to Bradford Council.

It comes after a woman spoke of her anger at the situation last November.

Jodi Hirst, of Bowling Hall Road, said: “I’m sick of it, it used to be such a nice area.”

Ms Hirst added: “It’s so upsetting, it really is."

At the time, she also said she had spotted rats running around the waste and the infestation began to impact her and her neighbour’s home.

She said: “My neighbour was really stressing, she was going to move because of the rats.”

Mr White has asked the Council to take action.

"The Council needs to get this sorted," added Mr White. "It just keeps getting worse and worse."

A Bradford Council spokesperson said: "Our Environmental Enforcement Team is aware of the problem and is currently investigating the source of the fly-tipping.

"They are liaising with the owner of the land to ensure all the waste is removed.

"Last year we investigated over 2,700 fly-tipping incidents, issued 81 fixed penalty notices and seized ten vehicles.

"Householders must make sure they use registered waste carriers.

"This helps prevent unregistered offenders from dumping waste illegally.

"If anyone has information about fly-tipping, please report it at bradford.gov.uk/flytipping or call 01274 432111.”
