SIR - A career criminal used air conditioning pipes in a hotel burglary as a means of accessing the finance office (T&A, July 30).
Mark Oxley had 20 previous convictions for over 50 offences and was described as a "career criminal" by the prosecution.
Despite all this Mr Recorder Simon Myerson QC at Bradford Crown Court considered a suspended sentence of 15 months to be appropriate.
We then read in the same paper about Jason Roddis charged with numerous assaults on police officers. Sadly he was simply sentenced at Bradford & Keighley Magistrates Court to another suspended sentence.
Is it any wonder that we continue to see so many repeat offenders when the sentences handed down are so patently inadequate? Our judiciary, in my view, are an utter disgrace.
