SIR - Whilst we all nurse a hangover from our City of Culture victory, the litter on our streets continues to appear relentlessly.

The areas around our parks and recreation grounds are particularly noticeable even though the litter bins are often overflowing. Surely there is a case for upgrading these bins to a more substantial type with greater volume capacity, similar to those found on continental Europe.

Whilst it won't stop the morons from discarding their take-away-cartons onto the streets, it will ensure that the majority of people can dispose of their litter respectfully.
