SIR- The celebrated Guardian columnist Owen Jones was physically attacked in 2019 by a Nazi sympathiser but thankfully Mr Jones recovered. And Owen has publicly announced that the attacker should be rehabilitated and not punished.

I've always been completely baffled as to why the word rehabilitation is more associated with people who do terrible things than people who are victims of these acts or the injured or ill.

The point that Owen Jones and others miss is that the vast majority of criminals already know what they're doing is wrong. So what's the point in rehabilitation? This is also a key factor with attempts to solve the drugs crisis.

People should take responsibility for their actions.
