SIR - On May9 you reported that 74 schools in Bradford contain or are presumed to contain asbestos.
White asbestos was widely used until it was banned in 1999. Every building built before 1999 is presumed to contain asbestos. Every workplace is required to conduct a detailed survey to determine if asbestos is present and where it is, so steps can be taken to ensure it is not disturbed and it can be removed safely if necessary (Asbestos Regulations 2012).
If schools are presumed to contain asbestos then an asbestos survey has not been conducted. Why not?
