SIR Your series of articles on West Yorkshire’s plans for a £2 billion mass transit system linking up the county's major towns and cities prompted me to look at the proposals. I amazed to see the provision of a line out to Leeds Bradford Airport.

North Leeds is in urgent need of improved public transport infrastructure. However linking the airport seems wildly inappropriate when there is an urgent need to reduce air travel, and its expansion plans are in doubt.

I also note that West Yorkshire Combined Authority is planning to dual Canal Road from Bradford to Shipley, effectively funnelling even more congestion down the Aire Valley with no mitigation plans to speak of. Did someone at WYCA not get the mayor’s climate crisis memo?
