SIR - Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston wants the RAF to be NetZero by 2040 - a laudable aim. Laughable, though, for weeks later he sanctioned the Red Arrows performing its annual ‘rolling heart’ manoeuvre over Lincolnshire skies on St Valentine’s Day.
The two jets effectively put two fingers up to the environment. Money wasted when our debts are £2.6trn, with aviation fuel costs up by 70per cent in a year.
The RAF website lists 10 display teams, not including their Police Dog Display Team! It spends a lot of our money showing off. The Defence Secretary should shut down such RAF expenditure.
