SIR - The closure of Bingley’s Sainsburys will leave our town centre without a convenience store so shoppers will be reliant on two inconvenience stores (Lidl and Aldi) or the Coop. Lidl is on the wrong side of Main Street and Aldi is at the bottom of a steep hill so those choosing to visit either store on foot are faced with a difficult and possibly dangerous journey for shopping trips large or small.
It also makes a mockery of the government’s professed intention to revive town centres and shows just how short-sighted it was for Bradford Council to grant planning permission for two more supermarkets when from Shipley to Keighley the area was already over supplied.
I suppose it is too much to hope that Sainsburys might have a change of heart.
