SIR - I write regarding ‘Rail plan slammed as a 'betrayal of Bradford', T&A, November 18. Rather than spending billion upon billions of pounds on a brand new line why not re-open the 5km Pickle Bridge Line between Brighouse and Wyke?
If re-opened it could connect Bradford into Northern Powerhouse Rail at Huddersfield, allowing a fast direct rail service to Manchester in under 33 minutes! The same time as what will be achieved from Leeds according to the Intergrated Rail Plan.
Apart from fulling the aspiration to put Bradford on an equal rail footing with Leeds towards Manchester, this would also bring Huddersfield and Bradford around 7km closer by train, in the spirit of Northern Powerhouse Rail that was about bringing the North closer together in order to deliver economic potential! So how about it ?
