SIR - You really couldn't make it up!
That idiotic hairdresser Sinead Quinn (an expert on the Magna Carta!) had accumulated £17,000 in fixed penalties from Kirklees Council for ignoring Covid-19 regulations (T&A, August 14).
We now find that these penalties have been superceded by a lower court fine of just £6,000 plus costs by Presiding Justice Sharon Jandu at the Magistrates Court.
What an utter nonsense. This latest fine should have been in addition to the fixed penalties already imposed. No wonder so many of us consider the law to be an ass. There is something seriously wrong here that needs urgently addressing.
The magistrates in this case have dealt a significant blow to all those who respect the law of the land. They should be thoroughly ashamed.
