IN A heatwave, one of the most annoying sights is hoses and sprinklers left on for hours.

The other day, I spotted a hosepipe with a brush attached to the end. It had been left on a drive after a car had been cleaned and was spewing out water. I passed it at about 11am and it was in the same place two hours later.

It was a baking hot day, and I felt like taking the brush and sticking it through the car owner’s living room window.

Don’t people realise that water is a precious commodity? Families in developing countries walk miles in fierce heat to reach a well for their daily supplies of water. It would be an interesting exercise for water wasters to spend time in these water-deprived communities .
