DURING lockdown, many people discovered the joys of walking for the first time as a form of exercise.

As normality returns, many of these people would like to continue walking but due to work or childcare commitments, can no longer walk during the day.

In order to help this group of new walkers keep moving, the Lower Wharfedale Ramblers have launched a series of evening walks across the summer months.

The walks are leisurely and designed to suit non-experienced walkers. A

ll walks start locally including Ilkley, Guiseley and Menston. Walks take place every Wednesday and start at 6:00pm, with an average distance of four to six miles.

The Ramblers fully comply with all government requirements for outside sporting activities contained within current Covid guidelines. These are expected to ease as the Summer advances.

Lesley Hill, Co-Chair of Lower Wharfedale Ramblers stated that: “The Ramblers are committed to making walking accessible to all.

“Our evening initiative is designed to encourage those who may have first started walking during lockdown to continue and enjoy interacting with nature.

“There is no initial charge and the only equipment required is a sensible pair of shoes or trainers, suitable for walking”.

Full details of all evening walks planned to date, and how to obtain further information, can be found in the walks section of the Lower Wharfedale Ramblers website: https://www.lowerwharfedaleramblers.co.uk/

Walkers must contact the walks coordinator to book a place on the walk and this can also be done online.
