A WOMAN who has been campaigning to improve road safety in her local area is pledging to continue her work.

Eleanor Thomson, Labour and Co-operative candidate for Guiseley and Rawdon ward, has been working for the past three years to address the problem. She set up a road safety group for Guiseley, Rawdon, Yeadon and surrounding areas, which has grown to over 700 members. She says speeding and obstructive parking are the most frequent issues reported.

In co-operation with members of the group, Mrs Thomson set up a community speed monitoring campaign in 2020, with data reported back to the Council, Police and local schools to give strength to the group’s arguments that action is needed in a number of areas of the ward. She also ran a poster competition for local children to help raise awareness.

Mrs Thomson said, “After three years working with residents on this issue, I am determined to carry on until we have made real, lasting change. I will work with residents, businesses, the Police and Council to make our roads safer for all who use them. If you have concerns about road safety, I would love to hear from you.”
