A 31 YEAR old man was helped after suffering cramp and getting stuck while climbing at Brimham Rocks, near Summerbridge, over the Easter bank holiday weekend.
The Grassington based Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) responded to a call on Saturday to help the man who after suffering severe cramp had become ‘crag-fast’ on one of the rocks - meaning he was unable to move.
A spokesperson for UWFRA said: “The team set up a belay system and a member was lowered down the crag and assisted the casualty back to ground level.”
The fell rescue team’s annual fundraiser, The Wharfedale Three Peaks Challenge, which takes place in and around Kettlewell in June, has been cancelled this year.
The team, which relies on fundraising and donations, cancelled the event earlier this year due to uncertainties with coronavirus restrictions.
The team says it hopes to stage the event in 2022.
