A BUILDING which has played an important part in Ilkley’s history is being recognised with a blue plaque.

Ilkley Civic Society has installed the plaque at The Rombalds on Wells Rd. The building, which is now apartments, dates back to the 1830s and has been a hotel for almost all of that time.

The plaque is the 20th to be put up as part of the civic society scheme to celebrate the history of Ilkley and buildings that have shaped the town. The first two were put up in 2004- at the Town Hall, unveiled by Alan Titchmarsh, and Ilkley Manor House, unveiled by MP Ann Cryer. The Rombalds plaque is sponsored by Burley Developments and Ilkley Civic Society.

ICS is hoping to celebrate the plaque and the history of the building with the residents of The Rombalds next year. Ilkley Local History Hub would like to hear from people with pictures or infomation about The Rombalds - localhistory@civicsociety.ilkley.org.
