THIS footbridge at Otley was dislodged by flooding back in February.

The bridge normally helps people cross a stream on the north bank of the River Wharfe, at Wharfemeadows Park, but was swept away.

Leeds City Council had intended to place it back in position earlier this year but the work was knocked back due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Councillor Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) says the intention is still to make the repair as soon as it is safe for a council crew to do so. The damage was caused when the town suffered serious flooding, over three weekends in a row, in what the Met Office later declared to have been the country’s wettest February since records began.

A flood defence scheme for Otley was approved by Leeds City Council in early March, before the COVID-19 lockdown began. The project will see an embankment and flood wall built to the west of Billams Hill.
