A RAWDON man has been elected as the new leader of the Yorkshire Party.

Dr Bob Buxton, originally from Guisborough, now lives in Rawdon, and works full time in Bradford, teaching engineering apprentices.

He became the first member of the Yorkshire Party to win a contested election, when elected to Rawdon Parish Council in 2015. He was re-elected in 2019.

He said: “I am honoured to become party leader. I look forward to carrying on the hard work of fighting for proper devolution for Yorkshire and the benefits it will bring. I want Yorkshire to become an example of prosperity, equality and success to which other regions aspire.”

Dr Buxton, who is hoping to increase the Yorkshire Party’s membership, said: “Join us if you think Yorkshire can do better than Westminster. Join us if you think local people know best about the decisions which affect Yorkshire.”

New members will get free membership through June and July
