RESIDENTS in Aireborough and Wharfedale are being warned to watch out for a new coronavirus-linked scam.

West Yorkshire Trading Standards has been receiving reports about a rogue trading company that has been cold-calling people.

The ‘business’ concerned claim to have sent a letter that stated they need to ‘come and check if the air is fresh’ - and if not will clean it to ‘prevent the coronavirus’.

Residents are also being advised to look out for fake PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) that is being offered across West Yorkshire.

The overall picture is looking better, however, as West Yorkshire Trading Standards notes in its latest newsletter. It says: “We are seeing a decline in reports of doorstep incidents relating to COVID-19 in West Yorkshire.

“We do ask that you remain vigilant during this pandemic and look out for others. If you are approached on your doorstep by fraudsters please report this.”

COVID-19 related scams in the area can be reported by sending an e-mail to: Covid19.Scams@wyjs.org.uk.

Scams can also be reported to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040 while scam e-mails can be sent to report@phishing.gov.uk
