A FORMER prison governor will talk about her work in an event at Rawdon Community Library.

Veronica Bird will highlight the problems faced by women who give birth in jail.

Ms Bird discussed the same issue in an event at the library last year and she is returning by popular demand, and at the invitation of Aireborough Civic Society, to give her talk Babies Behind Bars.

The former governor of Armley and Wakefield Prisons will focus on her work with women who give birth while in jail.

The event will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday, February 27.

Organisers say: “Veronica gives a fascinating insight as to how the system has changed since she first worked with pregnant women and the problems they face when giving birth in prison. How does prison affect these babies and their mothers?”

Admission is free for ACS members and £4 for non-members.
