GARDENING and food enthusiasts should enjoy a Burley Gardeners’ Association event next month.

Horticulturalist, television gardener and RHS judge Martin Fish will explain how to get the best from a fruit and vegetable plot when he appears at the Methodist Church on Thursday, March 12.

Mr Fish’s wife Jill, meanwhile, will be sharing tips on how to make the most of your havest in the kitchen - and providing some of her dishes for the audience to sample.

A take-home recipe sheet will also be available on the night which will also include a raffle and tea and biscuits afterwards.

And copies of Martin and Jill’s book, Gardening on the Menu, will be on sale along with some of their jams and chutneys.

The event starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £5 in advance or £6 on the door. They can be purchased from Gillian on (01943) 862750 or Caroline on 07701 089033.

Mr Fish studied horticulture at Brackenhurst College, Southwell and at Merrist Wood College in Surrey.

By the age of 21 he went on to become the Head Gardener at Rufford Abbey - and was at the time the youngest head gardener in the country.
