LABOUR may have suffered a chastening night but in Leeds North West the party was celebrating.
Alex Sobel has been re-elected to the seat, which includes Otley, Bramhope, Pool-in-Wharfedale and part of Yeadon, with an increased majority of 10,749 votes.
That is more than double the majority that Mr Sobel secured in 2017 election when he defeated Greg Mulholland, who had represented the constituency for the Liberal Democrats for 12 years.
The big difference this time was a surge from the Conservatives whose candidate, Stewart Harper, received 13,222 votes - pushing the Liberal Democrats into third place with their candidate, Kamran Hussain, getting 9,397 votes.
Green candidate Martin Hemingway received 1,389 votes while The Brexit Party's Graeme Webber got 1,304.
