SIXTY three runners braved a chilly late autumn run on Sunday to complete the second Litton Birks Loop Fell Race, in Littondale.

The race started with a steep climb of over a mile up to the trig point at the top of Firth Fell.

The runners then headed off on a two-mile loop around Birks Tarn followed by a fast descent to the finish for a well earned chip butty from the Queen's Arms pub, in Litton, and a pint of ‘Runner’s Gold’ brewed by the LAMB brewing company.

This years’ race was won by Knaresborough's James Warburton in a time of 39.38 mins. First woman was Claire Green, of Pudsey and Bramley AC, and eighth place overall, with a time of 44.48 mins.

The winning men’s team were Wharfedale Harriers with their counters 2nd Stephen Brock, 3rd Luke Appleyard and 11th Chris Jones. The women’s winning team were Pudsey and Bramley AC with 1st Claire Green, 2nd Rachel Pilling and 3rd Karen Pickles.

The race is community supported with all helpers, cakes baked and prizes donated by the residents of Littondale and made a total of £597 towards community funds.

Next year's race will be held on Sunday, November 15.
