ILKLEY’S monthly comedy night ‘Moor Laughs’ is marking its first anniversary on Sunday, September 22 at The Ilkley Moor Vaults with a specially commissioned birthday cake.

Headliner Milo McCabe aka “Troy Hawke,” recently returned from his headline tour, was the sensation of the Edinburgh Fringe and Australia’s Perth Fringe World, winning praise and plaudits for his unique and hilarious performance.

Troy’s TV credits include ITV’s Benidorm, BBC’s Live at the Electric, Channels 4 and 5. Troy Hawke is a multi-award-nominated performer who tackles modern issues head on in his uniquely, untimely and unworldly manner. Following a sell-out run in 2018 in which he exposed bingo as the deadliest sport in the country, the empty Marxist promise of Poundland’s false advertising and Aldi being responsible for Princess Diana, Troy’s 1930s throwback comedic investigator Troy Hawke returns, applying his scrabble mentalism to Kanye West, xenophobia and the ugly truth of IKEA’s link to the CIA.

Organiser Robson Stroud was the regular House Manager to a bi-monthly comedy night at the Playhouse for seven years but wanted to offer something different on early Sunday nights. In the last year Moor Laughs has booked headliners of the calibre of BBC1’s Geoff Norcott, Boothby Graffoe, Scott Bennett, Vic and Bob’s pal Angelos Epithemiou, Jack Gleadow, Shazia Mirza, Britain’s Got Talent finalist Noel James, and Canadian Bobby Mair.

Robson says the Vaults is a great venue for comedy. “I’ve been to watch and perform comedy in many venues across England and you’re usually not getting the best rooms or even seats,” he said. “By holding a comedy night at a quirky and charming recently renovated and repainted gastro pub like the Vaults we’ve got the benefit of our own function room with 100 comfy seats, and a brilliant beer garden with all-weather igloos.”

Robson has also booked a strong ‘supporting undercard’ of comics he has handpicked himself for the evening including the highly-rated young Liverpool comedian Jack Topher and the massively popular local comedian Howard Walker. Doors at 7pm.
