YEADON Theatre Company is excited to announce that local superstar singer Joanne Dexter will be performing with them at their forthcoming event, A Night at the Proms.

The event to be held on September 20 and 21 at Yeadon Town Hall, brings together York Institute Brass Band, Ilkley and Otley Choral Societies and headline singer Joanne on the Friday, with Soprano Margaret Macdonald on the Saturday.

Joanne was born in Otley and was educated locally before training at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, now renamed the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Now a professional soprano, Joanne is able to cross the musical genres with apparent ease. As a member of Opera North she has performed across the spectrum of operatic challenges – from Mozart to Puccini and from Verdi to Britten. Over the years she has worked with a colourful array of performers from celebrated baritones Bryn Terfel and Sir Thomas Allen to comic legend Ken Dodd and Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood. Internationally, she has performed in Japan, Italy, Germany, Spain and France and is frequently seen and heard on BBC TV and radio.

Supporting Joanne will be the York Railway Institute Brass Band and local groups Ilkley and Otley Choral Society.

The evening will run in the style of the Last Night of the Proms. There will be some beautiful numbers to enjoy from Joanne, ranging from popular Opera to mainstream musicals, including songs such as Vilia from the Merry Widow, Gershwin’s Summertime, I Could Have Danced All Night from My Fair Lady and Think of Me from Phantom of the Opera. But of course no “Last Night” type Proms event would be complete without classics such as Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory – and the crowd will be expected to wave their flags and join in!

On the Saturday evening the audience will enjoy the beautiful voice of Margaret Macdonald. Maggie as she is often know, is a mezzo-soprano, and is a renowned international singer and voice-coach. She sings regularly in major venues and cathedrals in the UK and abroad.

She has recorded a variety of works for Nimbus, Marco Polo and the BBC, including Maxwell Davies’ The Jacobite Rising and Sea Elegy.

The event will be held at Yeadon Town Hall on September 20-21 and tickets are now available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/ytc or call 0333 666 3366 during office hours.
