THE QUICK thinking of a Guiseley teacher has won a new bicycle for every pupil in her class.

Louise Williamson, who teaches at Green Meadows School, triumphed in radio station Heart Yorkshire’s Big School Showdown.

Miss Williamson was one of 34 Yorkshire teachers who were nominated by their pupils to take part in the competition, which involved a ten question, quick-fire quiz.

She ended up answering all ten questions correctly in 29.3 seconds, narrowly beating a teacher from Whitecote Primary School, in Leeds (29.7 seconds) to win a prize batch of bicycles provided by Wilco Motosave.

Miss Williamson, who was presented with her own bicycle by Heart Yorkshire presenters Dixie (David Dixon) and Emma Lenney, said: “You don’t know how much this will mean to the children at Green Meadows.

“Thank you to Heart, Dixie and Emma and Wilco Motosave for making it possible.”

Green Meadows is part of the North West SILC whose community special schools teach children with a range of complex learning difficulties. Headteacher Gavin Hosford said: “This is something that will be genuinely life changing for our children.”

The Big School Showdown has been running for the past four years. Heart Yorkshire presenter Dixie said: “We always look forward to giving away the bikes on the Big School Showdown, and to be visiting such an amazing school and seeing the look on the children’s faces was just priceless!”

A spokesman from Wilco Motosave added: “We are so happy that the bikes have gone to such a lovely local school. Well done to all the schools who entered.”
