OTLEY councillors heard more about Leeds Bradford Airport’s expansion plans this week.

The airport’s Corporate and External Affairs Manager, Phil Forster, gave a presentation to the Town Council’s meeting on Monday, January 21. Plans for a major extension to the main terminal building - a major part of its strategy to increase annual passenger numbers to seven million by 2030 - were approved in December.

Councillor Mick Bradley (Green, Danefield) was one of several councillors who raised concerns at the meeting. He said: “I understand the economic case but felt obliged to question its feasibility for what is the country’s highest airport, regularly effected by high winds.

“I welcome the improvements to the terminal building, which are needed even with the current four million passengers, but believe the negative consequences of rapid expansion for the local community and environment are being ignored. Mr Forster did offer to get a colleague to come to a future town council meeting and I welcome the opportunity to continue a dialogue.”
