MOORFIELD School in Ilkley has been celebrating fantastic music results in recent examinations.

Forty-four children took their musical theatre exams over the summer with all students getting 82 per cent and over. Five pupils also took classical singing exams.

A school spokesperson said: “Music at Moorfield has always been extremely strong and we are very fortunate to have such talented teachers and especially Steve and Emma Bradnum who teach singing.”

Here are some quotes from the examiners:

“A delightful exam, you really performed and each song was delivered with feeling”

“The song was sung with lively engagement, convincing and with lovely vocal quality”

“Delightful vocal colours”

“Expressive gestures, words clear and convincing movements to colour the words”

“You caught the lively character – lovely facial expressions”

Also many Moorfield pianists took part in the recent Wharfedale Festival of Piano and Song, playing as soloists or in duets or trios with their friends. Despite the very high standard of this year’s festival, the older children achieved a number of first, second and third places. In addition 13 of the children played in the non-competitive class for year three and below, which is a big first step for such young pianists.
