ILKLEY Gymnasts took part in two national competitions in one weekend.

On May 5th and 6th, regional winners stepped up to compete at the British Acrobatic Gymnastics and Tumbling Schools Finals in Stoke-on-Trent.

Ten gymnasts prepared to represent their schools and region with Ilkley Gym Club head coach Nicola Robinson. Amy Gott, Bella Burnham, Eve Hozhabrafkan, Maddie Hicks, Melissa Cape and Poppy Temperton of Ilkley Grammar School secured a podium position, placing third in the under 14s women’s groups.

Melissa and Bella also came third in the under 14s women’s pair category after performing a solid routine. Also from IGS, Eve Hozhabrafkan competed in the under 14s tumbling and Ellen Williams and Louise Hale placed fifth in the very competitive over 14s final.

Matthew Burnham and Lola Summerson represented Burley Woodhead School in the under 11s mixed pair final. Matthew also tumbled in the under 11s group.

On the May 6 Louise Hale and Amelia Craske competed amongst some of the best acrobatic gymnasts in the country at the Southampton Inter-regional Competition, performing two floor routines that landed them fifth place in the Grade 5 women’s pairs division. They were also part of the Yorkshire team there, which were the highest scoring region.
