DETECTIVES are investigating an incident in Leeds where a male was seen being chased and a blank firing gun was discharged.

Shortly after midnight in the early hours of this morning police received a report of three young males seen chasing another male and loud bangs being heard in the vicinity of Cherry Row, Burmantofts.

Armed officers were deployed to the scene and blank shell cases were recovered.

A scene remains in place to undergo forensic examination and specialist searches.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify the suspects and the victim.

Detective Inspector Vicky Alexander, of Leeds District CID, said: “We are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify those involved and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any part of the incident or who has any information that could assist the investigation.

“We appreciate an incident such as this will cause concern to residents in the area and we are working closely with our colleagues on the local neighbourhood policing team who will be providing suitable reassurance.”
