RYAN Brooks is regarded as a role model through his activities in youth work at Ravenscliffe Youth Centre in Bradford.

The centre provides activities for youngsters within Ravenscliffe and the wider community of Eccleshill and beyond.

He has been involved in writing funding bids and taking a lead role in planning fundraising events to raise money for the centre and its young members.

He has been instrumental in setting up a brand new junior youth club in Ravenscliffe after seeking views from the community and which successfully trialled over the summer holidays.

It has now started to run regularly.

He is described as a very positive person who motivates others.

He is keen to ensure there are always activities for young people to be involved in and to keep them occupied in a positive way.

He often comes up with ideas for the youth centre which he shares with fellow workers and who help make it a reality.

Ryan is said to be a prime example of a young person putting something back into his local area and providing others with opportunities to engage in positive activities.

THE organisers of Wrose Carnival have brought colour and entertainment to the community each year with a popular event for all ages.

With dedication and determination the committee ensures each event is a resounding success, often battling the English weather, but always with a focus on ensuring all carnival-goers enjoy the atmosphere.

The carnival briefly ceased in 2013 but was so badly missed that a new committee was set up and it was resurrected for 2015 with a host of guests, including Bradford City football players and the then Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Joanne Dodds.

As well as bringing the community together the carnival helps raise funds for local charities and good causes.

Last year it raised £3,000 which was donated to the city’s burns unit in memory of the Bradford Fire Disaster.

The disaster was also remembered on the day with the releasing of 56 balloons.

This year a further £3,000 was raised for charity which was split between Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie and Wrose charities.

Dedicated committee members give their time by holding regular monthly meetings.

JOSHUA Capper is a young leader for the Scout movement in Shipley where he spends two evenings a week.

He is described as a thoughtful and caring person, often giving up his free time to help others and give support in the community.

He was one of several people who was actively involved in the Baildon and Shipley flood relief group following the Boxing Day floods last year.

Joshua turned up each day to help where he could during a very stressful time for residents.

He also spent time throughout that night helping with the sandbags to prevent further flood damage to vulnerable properties.

This he did with a smile and a courteous manner, as well as a positive attitude.

His nominee Donna Call describes him as hard working and dedicated and says he always goes the extra mile.

She says he is a shining example to the young people in the community and is regarded as a perfect role model for them to aspire to.

He has the ability to look at the world and see that he can make a difference, she added.
