A Bradford bingo club that was once dubbed ‘the luckiest in Yorkshire’ has been bought by a Scottish operator which has snapped it up along with five others in the North of England in a deal worth £10 million.

The Buckingham Bingo Club in Bridge Street, next to Bradford Interchange, has been bought by Fraser Capital Management, owners of the Club 3000 bingo chain which has three bingo clubs in Scotland and Wales.

Fraser has also bought three clubs in Manchester and one each in Preston, Peterlee and Liverpool which will boost the turnover over the next 12 months from £5 million to £20 million.

The deal has been funded by Clydesdale Bank as part of its Investing for Growth strategy.

The bank will provide Fraser Capital with £4.9 million of funding through tailored business loans. Fraser Capital’s existing Club 3000 outlets employ 120 staff with the new clubs adding a further 360 people to the workforce.

Brian Fraser, managing director of Fraser Capital Management, said: “We’re delighted to complete this acquisition which will allow us to progress our plans for expansion of the Club 3000 brand. Our outlets in Scotland and Wales have been extremely successful and our aim is to replicate that success in our new North of England locations with a full re-launch under the Club 3000 brand in August.

“The industry has had a tough few years due to the general state of the economy as well as factors such as the smoking ban and an increasing tax burden.

“Despite these challenges, our commitment to providing customers with good service and value for money has paid off and we’ll be carrying those values forward into our expanded operation as we bring our new outlets on stream.”

Brian Fraser has been involved in the bingo industry for more than 30 years. In 1997, he established the Riva chain before selling the business in 2004.

Buckingham Bingo Bradford was declared Yorkshire’s luckiest bingo club after a trio of big wins totalling more than £50,000 in as many days in December 2009.
