An SOS has gone out to find volunteers to run a traditional sweet shop at a popular Aire Valley tourist attraction.

Shipley Glen Tramway is searching for the perfect candidates - preferably those without a sweet tooth - to serve up bags of sweets such as jelly babies, brandy snaps and humbugs.

The popular Old Sweetie Shop at the top of the tramway still keeps its sweets in glass jars for tens of thousands of visitors each year.

Volunteers will be in charge of replenishing stock, taking payment and chatting to the 31,000 customers a year which the tramway attracts.

Richard Freeman, of Shipley Glen Tramway, said: "We are always looking out for volunteers to help in the museum and sell tickets and help in the sweet shop - provided they don't pinch all the sweets!"

"We also sell bottled drinks and tramway memorabilia and cards. It is an old-fashioned sweet shop - you can't go into many places nowadays with rows and rows of glass jars with traditional sweets."

There are also positions available for tram drivers, who will be trained, and for a station controller with the main attributes of a loud voice and ample puff to blow hard on a whistle.

Museum guides are also needed to bring to life the history of the glen - once known as Bradford's Golden Mile - and the people who used to live there.
