Pupils from two primary schools in Burley-in-Wharfedale got their business heads on in a one-off project to inspire entrepreneurship.
Twelve pupils from Burley Oaks and Burley and Woodhead schools combined to research the 200 businesses in their village. The ten and 11-year-olds placed the companies into categories, before presenting findings to the Burley and District Chamber of Trade (BADCOT) – which had secured £300 Bradford Council funding for the project.
Burley Oaks assistant head teacher Richard Sells, praised the students for their “high level thinking, great teamwork and communication skills” during the exercise – which also prompted the children to learn new computer software.
BADCOT vice-chairman Les Cousins said: “Our members are always keen to engage with the wider community and this was a creative way to introduce the children to the diverse world of business.”
The funding bid was supported by Wharfedale councillors Dale Smith, Matt Palmer and Chris Greaves.
