Components made by a Bradford plastics firm will enable BT to roll out superfast broadband services under a Government scheme, which has provided £315m of funding to Bradford and Leeds to provide services to key business areas.

Tatra Plastics Manufacturing, based at Norwood Green, has won a contract to design, make and supply a range of fibre optic cable housings and couplings to carry the broadband cabling into buildings.

The components will be supplied to BT for installation at both commercial and domestic premises and will carry broadband fibre optic cables up from the ground level and through walls. The weather and wear-resistant components are designed to accommodate any route to take cable into a building.

The Tatra components will eventually replace the existing plastic cable box housings currently used in millions of homes and offices nationwide.

Paul Freud, chairman, said: “Businesses today are reliant on high-speed broadband and we are proud to have been chosen to help provide the infrastructure that companies need to compete for business, investment and jobs.”

Tatra Plastics manufactures a range of PVC extrusions, plastic extrusions, plastic tube, profile extrusions and injection moulding. It recently invested £125,000 in machinery to help secure future contracts and jobs.
