A 28-year-old man has been jailed for six years for a “horrific” attack with a broken bottle.

Jason Jones thrust the weapon into warehouseman Luke Wolowiec’s face after fighting broke out in Idle , Bradford, on September 29 last year.

Mr Wolowiec, 25, suffered three cuts to his face and neck that needed suturing under general anaesthetic. He was in hospital for several days and has been left scarred.

Jones, a father-of-one, of Frank Street, Great Horton , Bradford, pleaded guilty to wounding Mr Wolowiec with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

Marcus Josephs, 25, of Tranter Grove, Tyersal , Bradford, was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, and ordered to do 200 hours’ unpaid work after admitting affray.

Prosecutor Mehran Nassiri told Bradford Crown Court yesterday that Jones and Josephs were thrown out of The White Swan pub in Idle for fighting.

The row continued in the street, with others joining in. Jones bit Josephs on the nose and he picked up an iron bar but did not use it.

Jones removed his T-shirt and took two glass bottles from a rubbish bin.

After Josephs had gone, Jones said: “I’ll kill someone.” He smashed a bottle on railings and thrust it into Mr Wolowiec’s face as he walked past.

The court heard he had previous convictions for violence, including a street robbery in Bradford that landed him with a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence in 2006.

Josephs had convictions for actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

Sophie Drake, for Josephs, said he needed plastic surgery for his nose. He was severely provoked and was not around when the bottle attack took place.

Katherine Robinson, Jones’ barrister, said he suffered a broken nose and other injuries.

He was a working man with a partner and young child. He was genuinely remorseful and had apologised to Mr Wolowiec.

Judge Jonathan Rose told Josephs: “You need to learn to walk away.”

Sentencing Jones, the judge said: “This was a horrific, violent, uncalled for, unprovoked and unwarranted attack on a man who was completely innocent and the result was quite dreadful.”
