Some pupils were sent home yesterday as a Bradford school started a crackdown on uniforms.
Ian Richardson, the new head teacher at Challenge College , Frizinghall , said letters had been sent home to parents last term and pupils had been repeatedly reminded about the existing uniform rules when they returned to school last week.
But Mr Richardson said some students had arrived still in breach of the code, mostly relating to bags, footwear and haircuts.
He said some pupils had been sent home, with the permission of their parents, to change and all but a handful had returned to school properly dressed.
Mr Richardson said: “What we’ve said to students is the issue isn’t about uniform per se, but it’s about understanding that when people in authority, like police officers or teachers, are saying something they actually mean it.”
