Campaigners fighting plans for a wind farm on the moors which inspired the Bronte sisters' novels are warning residents there is only a week left to have their say on proposals to double the size of turbines at a nearby existing windfarm.
Members of Thornton Moor Windfarm Action Group – which is locked in a battle with developer Banks Renewables over plans for up to four turbines on moorland south of Denholme – are objecting to plans by Yorkshire Wind Power to construct nine new turbines that would be 115 metres to their blade tip, replacing 23 which stand at 48.9 metres.
A spokesman for power company Eon, which is involved in the proposal, said the larger turbines at Ovenden would enable the site to more than double its generation capacity from 9.2MW to 22.5MW, while using far fewer turbines.
The application has been submitted to Calderdale Council, with a closing date for comments listed as Thursday, September 13. For more information visit calderdale.gov.uk and search for planning application number 12/00955/ WDF.
