Nominations are being invited for an award which celebrates housing association tenants in the district who deserve recognition for brightening up other people’s lives.
The Gerry Pickersgill Award is made every year to celebrate local heroes and nominations can now be submitted for 2012. It could be a person who runs a local group, organises trips out, runs errands for someone who is housebound or is a special neighbour.
The awards are open to any housing association tenant across the district. They are organised by the Bradford District Federation of Tenants and Residents and the district’s largest social landlord Incommunities in memory of a housing manager who died in 2000.
Last year for the first time two neighbours shared the top prize. Kennedy House residents Jean Grange and Mary Morton were honoured for their hard work bringing older residents together.
A special recognition prize also went to Phillipa Craven, of the Crosley Wood Tenants Group.
This year people can make their nominations online by going to incommunities.co.uk and clicking the awards banner on the front page.
Alternatively, ring Craig Berry on (01274) 254749 or e-mail craig.berry @incommunities for a nomination form. The closing date for nominations is Monday, October 15.
Alex Brown, of the District Federation, said: “The search has started to celebrate the district’s top tenants and find that special local hero who makes a positive difference to other people’s lives.
“If you know someone who you think is special then make your nomination online or by calling Incommunities.”
Geraldine Howley, Incommunities Group chief executive, said: “Every year, the Gerry Pickersgill Award celebrates those housing tenants who go the extra mile to help improve other people’s lives.
“We want to honour the inspiring work that goes on in neighbourhoods.”
All nominees will be invited to the awards ceremony which takes place on Thursday, November 8, at The 3 Acres, Bingley Road, near Keighley .
The event is open to all housing association tenants. To book your place, please ring Mr Berry. Free transport is available.
