A newly-qualified children’s nurse has shaved off her crowning glory in a show of support for a friend who is battling breast cancer.
As well as supporting her pal, the move by 24-year-old Rebecca Rose, will raise more than £500 for the charity Breast Cancer Care through sponsorship.
The hair, which reached down the middle of Rebecca’s back, will not go to waste as she has donated it to a charity called The Little Princess Trust which provides real hair wigs to children suffering hair loss. This was inspired by Rebecca’s work caring for children on hospital wards.
The shave took place at Rebecca’s home in Grange Avenue, Shipley , and it was her friend 39-year-old Pamela Cawood, also of Shipley, who performed the honours on Tuesday.
Pamela, a mother-of-two, was diagnosed with breast cancer in January and has been going through chemotherapy treatment, which has caused her to lose her hair.
Rebecca, who has completed an advanced diploma in nursing at Bradford University, is looking forward to working as a children’s nurse. She said: “Breast Cancer Care supports an awful lot of women throughout the UK.
“I feel that doing something as simple as just shaving my head can make an impact on just one person's life then I have made a difference. I would like to say a big thankyou to the Aire Valley Court residents and Racesafe Marshals, an organisation that my dad is involved with – they have been a big support and sponsored me.”
