Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will visit the Bradford district later this month as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The Royal couple will have lunch at Pace plc, a leading technology developing company located in historic Salts Mill, in Saltaire, on Thursday, July 19.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Dale Smith and Lady Mayoress Margaret Smith will be attending the lunch.

However, very few details have emerged so far about the itinerary for the visit.

Pace is widely regarded as a world leader in satellite cable and terrestrial receiving equipment and microwave technology. The company has been a key part of efforts to turn the Aire Valley into a high-tech corridor for the creative industries.

The Queen last visited Bradford in May 2007 to officially open the Bradford Police Headquarters in Nelson Street and the Hindu Temple on Leeds Road.

She was presented with a posy from the two children of Bradford Police officer, Sharon Beshenivsky, who was shot dead on duty in the city.

Hundreds of people turned out in Centenary Square to catch a glimpse of the Queen, where she met with Bradford’s chief executive Tony Reeves.

Her Majesty officially opened Centenary Square in 1997 and handed out Maundy money in Bradford Cathedral and opened Bradford City’s £1.5 million Midland Road stand.

Phillip Davies, MP for Shipley, a constituency which includes Saltaire, said: “It’s fantastic, what brilliant news being the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year.

“It’s fantastic she’s visiting Saltaire, a World Heritage Site, but also Pace, one of the best high-tech companies in the world. She will be very warmly welcomed.”

On the same day she will also pay a visit to The Topping Out Ceremony for Leeds Arena and the City Varieties Music Hall in Leeds.
