Rock and Roll favourites Phil Haley and the Comments will be appearing at a new music venue, Octagon Live in Bradford Road, Sandbeds, Keighley tomorrow night.

Owner John Pennington has pledged to give free admission to anyone who brings with them a vinyl copy of the Bill Haley worldwide number one hit, Rock Around The Clock.

He said: “Even better, bring an original 12-inch 78 version and get to sing on stage with the band. This will be the first of a series held on the first Saturday of every month. Visiting bands include Good Rockin’ Tonight and The Jets.

“Dust off your old record collection, put on your drapes and join what will be a great night to celebrate the era of rock and roll.”

A Bingley Conservative councillor on Bradford Council, John Pennington is no stranger to the live entertainment business.

He formerly owned the Rock and Heifer pub in Thornton, the Midland Hotel and a nightclub in Manningham Lane.

“The Octagon is function venue for hire, but it’s also a live entertainment venue,” he added.

Asked how much he spent on the venture, he commented: “Setting up a business like this in the current economic climate means that clearly I have a slate loose.”
