A farmers’ market is to be held in Baildon following a two-year campaign by residents and business owners in the village.
Baildon Parish Council has given a green light for the monthly market outside Ian Clough Hall, which will sell produce from Yorkshire farmers.
The campaign was led by Baildon Belles Women’s Institute, who collected signatures in support of the scheme.
Deputy president Jill Swift, who is also a member of the Farmers' Market Steering Group, said: “We are delighted to get the go ahead for a vibrant market which we hope will revitalise Baildon.
“We want to bring variety and choice to the village, with stalls selling fruit and vegetables, fresh bread, fish, game and preserves, all produced locally.”
Businesses in the village were also surveyed as part of the consultation process, with almost all pledging their support.
Parish Councillor and chairman of the Steering Group Gill Dixon said: “We want this market to bring business to Baildon and encourage local shopping, not just once a month but every day of the week.”
The Parish Council will fund the launch of the market in September, but expect it to become self-financing.
