A man has died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a lamppost in Guiseley early today.
Firefighters from Rawdon and Shipley fire stations were called to the accident in Nunroyd Avenue, outside West Side retail park, shortly before 6am.
Watch commander Rob Hart, of Rawdon fire station, said his crew was the first to arrive at the scene and tried to resuscitate the man, who was trapped in a blue Peugeot 307, until colleagues from Shipley arrived.
Mr Hart said: “We then extricated him and he was transferred to hospital in a serious condition.”
A West Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman confirmed the man died a short time later.
Leeds Road was closed from Kirk Lane and with traffic being redirected from West Side retail park.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said officers were carrying out an investigation at the scene.
Witnesses or anyone with information should call police on 101.
