A man who was found critically injured on a city centre pavement may have fallen while trying to climb up an apartment block.

Detectives have now ruled out any suspicious circumstances after the victim was found lying unconscious in the street.

The 28-year-old remained in a critical but stable condition in Bradford Royal Infirmary yesterday (Mon) after he was discovered outside York House, in Manor Row near to its junction with Upper Piccadilly, at around 5.30am on Sunday.

He had suffered multiple injuries, including head wounds. Police initially threw cordons around the area while an investigation was launched into how the man had been injured.

He remained unconscious yesterday in the intensive care unit at BRI, though doctors were hoping he would regain consciousness later in the day.

Police removed the cordons yesterday after their inquiries, which included studying CCTV footage and interviewing residents, revealed there was nothing suspicious about how the man was hurt.

Detective Inspector Ben McDonald, of Bradford South CID, said: “We have not been able to speak to the injured man as he has been unconscious. But we have interviewed a number of people and looked at CCTV in the area which has assisted us, and I am happy that there are no criminal circumstances surrounding how the man was injured.”

Detectives were alerted by the ambulance service after the discovery of the prostate man. He was treated at the scene before being ferried to hospital, though his injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

It is believed that the man, who is understood to have been drinking, had attempted to climb up the side of the building but had fallen. It is not known how far he fell.

The man, who is not from Bradford, is thought to have been intending to visit a friend when the accident happened. His family were being informed yesterday.

Sheraz Malik, of Malik House business centre next to York House, said: “We have heard that someone tried to get in and fell off the building.

“I understand he was found on the pavement by the main road. There was blood on the pavement.”

Any witnesses are asked to contact Bradford South CID via 101.
