Big crowds are expected to line the streets when the Olympic Torch Relay passes through the Bradford district tomorrow.

Residents are being reminded to turn up early to see the flame visit Brighouse, Bradford, Keighley, Skipton and Ilkley.

Events will be held by Bradford Council in City Park and Lister Park from 1pm before the Torch arrives in the city at about 2.40pm. The Council is also supporting other community events in Keighley, where entertainment begins at 11am before the torch arrives at about 3.40pm. It then reaches Ilkley at about 4.45pm.

Where it is safe to do so, standing on the left of the road will offer the best position to see the Torch as well as receive keepsakes being handed out by Presenting Partners who travel about an hour to 30 minutes before the Torch.

Spectators are reminded that a convoy of vehicles will pass about five to seven minutes before the Torch arrives and crowds should keep their place once they have passed.

Parking restrictions will be in place on roads on and near the route from 6am on Sunday and rolling roads closures will take place. Residents are urged to use public transport to attend events.

The Telegraph & Argus will provide regular updates on its website as the torch passes through the district.

The Council will also be providing real-time updates via its Twitter and Facebook accounts, twitter.com/bradfordmdc and fb.com/bradfordmdc and further information is available from bradfordgold.com.

Coun Andrew Thornton, Bradford Council’s Executive Member responsible for sport, said: “A huge amount of work has gone in to preparing for Sunday and the Council has liaised closely with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and other agencies to plan for the day.”

Meanwhile, a teacher at Bradford’s Ministry of Food has spoken of her pride at carrying the Torch in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, earlier this week.

Lisa McLoughlin, aged 39, was chosen for her work to encourage students to reach a gold medal standard of cooking through community outreach work.

She said: “This has been a massive achievement for me and for Bradford Ministry of Food. The memories of the day will last for ever.”

Meanwhile, a dozen pupils from five primary schools staged their own version of the Olympic Torch Relay yesterday along the streets of Manningham. PE coach at Iqra Primary School, Wayne Broxholme, organised the event, which included pupils from Iqra, Springwood, Atlas, Miriam Lord and Whetley Hill Primary Schools.
